Context and Challenges

Southeast Port of Brazil is a private port on Madeira Island, Itaguaí - RJ. It was designed to handle and export iron ore and other solid bulk cargoes abroad. The high demand of the market made it necessary to make improvements in its operation, which was going through the challenges of:

  1. Automate the process of pointing out the occurrence of failure
  2. Ensure the reliability of information
  3. Centralize the information
  4. Define a life cycle of the failure data in the system and transmit this understanding to the customer
  5. Systematize the failure analysis process

Solutions Used and Equipment Provided

We developed a project based on agile methodology using Scrum as a driving framework together with the MVP concept (Minimum Variable Product).

The initial focus was on the quality of information. We developed a system that provided better data collection of the failures that occurred in the process. Later, in the tool, failure analysis was performed with prioritization of corrective actions and evaluation of their effectiveness, seeking to replicate the process to the same types of assets.

It was this system that provided the means to achieve the target of 200% improvement in MTBF.

Several gains were obtained by integrating the plant information into a system, with emphasis on the visibility of unloading and shipment information, compositions and the integration of the information with the railroad system.

The system now integrates operation, maintenance and planning information and is widely used at the Port.
