Context and Challenges

A pulp and paper industry needed to implement a wood yard within an urban area, considering electrical, instrumentation and automation. It was necessary to deal with all the spheres of the project, use the most modern technologies available and adapt to the environmental requirements of the implementation site, which involved challenges such as

  1. Elaborate the electrical, instrumentation and automation projects attending NR-10
  2. Supply, install, commission and start-up all equipment and materials
  3. Adapting the work to the environmental standards of an urban area
  4. Comply strictly with the established deadline
  5. Install and develop the PIMS PI System (approx. 75,000 tags) for the whole plant expansion project

Solutions Used and Equipment Provided

Emergency devices were used in the field for the NR-12, connected to a safety relay panel for the motor demarrators and a safety card for the inverters. For the main mobile equipment, fed in medium voltage, a field disconnector panel with its appropriate protections, signs and commands was developed for use by maintenance and operation teams.

For protection of the power transformers at 34.5 kV, surge suppressors were used, properly calculated and installed on their supply bushings.

To control and supervise the plant we used a DCS communicating with its remotes, electrical equipment such as: no-breaks, CCM's and inverters in Profibus DP.

Installation and development of PIMS (approx. 75,000 tags) for the entire plant expansion project.
