Context and Challenges

An oil company needed panels of the highest quality standard for a platform, and third party delays in the project made the manufacturing time only 150 days. Unable to manufacture the panels, the contracted company needed a partner who would accept this challenge: here we come, from IHM Stefanini. The manufacture was going through issues such as:

  1. No rework is possible, as the panels would be inspected and should be sent to China as soon as possible.
  2. Inspection of panels by ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), an American company that certifies equipment shipped on ships or platforms known for its rigor during the certification process.
  3. Daily inspection with reports twice a day, by the companies involved in the project, throughout the manufacturing process.
  4. The HMI team worked on a shift basis on weekends.

Solutions Used and Equipment Provided

We rented another shed to double the capacity of the plant, which allowed us to accommodate all the panels and create a drawer assembly line.

We manufacture the structure of the panels and the busbars, while components were supplied by the contractor.

We dedicated a senior engineer to receiving components and detect non-conformities, which led to 2700 non-compliant items being refused.

We delivered the panels within the requested deadline that after ABS approval, were sent to China.
